Join us on August 1, 2012 for a new #SocEntChat about women & technology @2pm IST.

Life for women and girls in the 21st century can be a challenge. Every day, millions of women worldwide deal with a gender and technology divide that leaves them “underrepresented at every level” of the pyramid. But change is on the horizon as awareness of this issue grows.

E-learning initiatives are helping to make education more inclusive, particularly for women in low- and middle-income countries; civil society organizations and for-profit businesses are also getting involved by encouraging women to consider careers in tech-focused fields, from engineering to design.

So what’s next for the women of the world? And how can technology help?

For answers to those questions (and more) join Ashoka Changemakers and Intel Corporation this Wednesday, August 1, at 2 p.m. IST (10:30 a.m. GMT+2) , for a Twitter-based #SocEntChat about technology for women, by women. (Click here to convert to your local time.)

Special guests include Telecentre.org (@telecentreorg), Women 2.0 (@women2), kiraChix (@AkiraChixs) and Waaw Foundation (@waawfoundation).

Do visit the She Will Innovate competition and participate!

#PowerofSmall #SocEntChat, July 18th @1:30pm IST: Supporting Entrepreneurs That Strengthen Local Economies

Join Ashoka Changemakers and SAP on Wednesday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CET (1.30 p.m. IST), for a Twitter-based #SocEntChat about innovative strategies that help small businesses and emerging social entrepreneurs thrive in underserved communities. Special guests Rob Henning, co-founder and partner at Entrepreneurial Solutions Partner, Ayan Bannerjee, CEO of Chetna Organics, Fajar Anugerah (@fajaranugerah) Program Manager of GEPI (Global Entrepreneurship Program Indonesia), and Alex van der Ploeg, Corporate Social Responsibility at SAP, will join the conversation.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the lifeblood of robust and diversified local economies. But to thrive, small businesses face a myriad of challenges, especially in the places where they are needed most—struggling and underserved communities.

Access to capital, qualified employees, and a strong customer base are key for the growth of young businesses. And emerging entrepreneurs often can’t expand their capacity without mentorship and training. Many small businesses are also seeking to make a social impact and benefit their communities, but lack the resources or knowhow to align their processes to these goals.

The solutions to unlocking the tremendous potential of small businesses and entrepreneurs are out there. We want to hear about what’s happening in your community. What challenges exist, what’s working, and where are the opportunities for innovation?

Lets hear everyone's thoughts and views. Join the community chat on twitter. Here's the shortcut to our session tomorrow at 1:30pm IST: http://tweetchat.com/room/SocEntChat

Catch you all on Twitter, @changemakers!
